How it fits

Measure both feet and use the larger measurement.

Leave about a thumb’s width at the front of the shoe for growing room.

Between sizes or widths? Saucony recommends choosing the larger option.

Widths

Width Signs it’s the right choice
Standard (M) Start here. No pressure on the sides; the foot sits comfortably within the sole.
Wide (W) Standard feels snug going on, leaves light marks after wearing, or the foot looks wide or spread out.
Extra Wide Standard feels tight even when sizing up, or the foot presses against or over the edge of the sole.

Extra Wide (Saucony’s “EW”) shows as XW in our size picker on the styles we carry in that width.

How fast kids’ feet grow

Age Average growth
0–15 months ½ size every 2 months
15 months–2 years ½ size every 2–3 months
2–3 years ½ size every 3–4 months
3–5 years ½ size every 4 months
5–7 years ½ size every 6 months
7–10 years ½ size every 6–12 months
10–12 years ½ size every 6–12 months

Kids’ feet can grow up to a half size every 2–4 months, so Saucony recommends measuring regularly.

Growing room

Aim for about ½ inch (1–1.5 cm) of space past the longest toe — about a thumb’s width.

Signs shoes are too small: red marks, toes curled or pressed at the front, or your child pulling the shoes off.

Signs shoes are too big: the heel slips out when walking, or your child trips or shuffles.

How to measure

  1. Have your child stand with their heel against a wall.
  2. Measure from the wall to the tip of the longest toe.
  3. Measure both feet and use the larger measurement.
  4. Leave about a thumb’s width for growing room when choosing a size.
